Welcome
Off Lease Copiers from CopySmart are one of the best ways to buy equipment.  Probably 70-80% of new copiers sold, are processed with a Fair market Value (FMV) lease agreement.  This allows the company buying the new copier to pay as they use, eliminate the need to reduce operating cash, and write off the entire payment as an operating expense.  $1.00 purchase option leases are supposed to be written off as a capital expense and are usually purchased by the end user and will not enter the remarketers stream of inventory.

So where do these end of term FMV leased copiers go?  They either go back to the original dealer in which they can buy directly from the leasing company, or they get shipped to off lease remarketers.  Normally off lease remarketers sell only to dealers for their resale, but sometimes you can buy directly from the remarketers.

How do I know which is best for me?  That's the real question...

The answer depends on who you are.  If you are a copier dealer and want to offer your clients an alternative to new equipment, the off lease choices are bountiful and profitable.  If you are an end user, you must be careful.  Yes, if you buy a direct off lease copier from a remarketer, you will get the lowest prices around, but you might find yourself in a headache situation.

First you would need to know which model is best for you.  A remarketer may not be able to help you with this question.  Second, how do you know what work needs to be done to the equipment after it arrives?  How old is the equipment? Who can service it in your area? Will they take on this machine for service at all?  Will you be wasting your money, only to have to go to a local dealer anyway?

There are ways to overcome these questions.   Contact the Resource team at CopySmart, tell us who you are, what type of firm it is, location, what you are using now and what you will expect to be doing in the next few years (volumes, types of copy jobs, options needed, price range), and we will make some recommendations for your next purchase of equipment.
