Industry Acronyms & Terms Equipment Definitions & Terms OEM; Original Equipment Manufacturer. Parts or components either manufactured by or meets their approval and has their name and logo representing the "OEM Product". Most times they are also the most expensive because of their high overhead and need for profit. The OEM might say it's because of research & development and constant quality control and standards. MFP; Multi Functional Printer. A machines with the capabilities of Copy Print Scan and sometimes faxing. All in One Toner Cartridge Terms "All In One" Cartridge; A Toner cartridge created by Canon and distributed through HP in the LaserJet series. the cartridge consists of Toner with developer mixed in (see mono component), Drum, Corona or Charge Roller, Wiper Blade, Waste Section & Outer Housing Refilled; A term created for all in one cartridges that needed to be remanufactured, but instead, a hole was drilled in the cartridge and then simply refilled with toner and the hole was plugged up. Quickly clients and their vendors realized that this did not complete what was needed for making the product last through a second cycle. Quickly refillers were giving Remanufacturers a bad name because clients could not differentiate between them. Recharged; A form of remanufacturing, a term that is rarely used today. Remanufactured; This term is probably what every oem and non practices. If a new oem cartridge is made from used components like it is written on the box, then all cartridges produced today in some form are remanufactured in some manner. Remanufacturing description.......... Recycled; A Form of remanufacturing, a term less used than remanufacturing or remanufactured. Newly Manufactured; Another term that implies new, but uses the frame and/or components of a previous carcass. OEM New; 100% new product from no used components. Compatible New; 100% new product from no used components. Not manufactured or endorsed by the OEM. Usually sold for a lower price since the non-oem has lower overhead and less research costs in developing the product. Example; A Motor Craft oil filter is manufactured and/or endorsed as OEM by Ford Motor Co. A Fram Oil Filter is a new filter, but Ford does not endorse or make the product. Ford also, does not receive profits from it either, unless there is an agreement , but usually none exist. There are several laws that protect our right to use non oem products without jeopardizing the product's warranty. see; Sherman Clayton Anti Trust Act. If these products were a problem you'd have lawsuits and complaints, however very few complaints take place today because of advancements in manufacturing capabilities of non-oem products. In today's economy trends are showing that these cost effective alternatives are actually still gaining market share on the OEM's. Compatible Remanufactured; New & Used Components; Toner Tube or Bottle Terms Toner; Waste Container; Mono Component; Developer; OPC; Organic Photo Conductor.
